How exactly do you review a 30 page story? I don’t really know how but I’m going to give it a try ;)

Even though Dead Awakening was 33 pages only, it was totally AWESOME! You know, I don’t really read about zombies and I tend to avoid them(except Invincible series. Nick Gautier’s sarcasm is just AWESOME!). And I don’t really watch zombies movies either. The give me nightmares(except Residient Evil).

I had a few zombies nightmare and let me tell you this, it wasn’t pretty.  And the story starts EXACTLY like my nightmare and I was all like NOOO!!!! Plus, I’m not a fan of ..... since I watched that one scene where they hide under cars and... and... and... oh I can’t say it! *sob* Anyways... Through the whole book, I was really hoping it won’t give me any heart attack like ... did.

Dead Awakening may only be 33 pages but it was full of elements. Totally suspenseful. It’s definitely a story worth reading. Plus, you could finish this in like, 10 minutes ;)

Blog Tour: Simplicity by Valia Lind Review + Giveaway + Character Interview

Simplicity

By Valia Lind
A-Argus Better Book Publishers, LLC

Driven, beautiful Alexis Sinclair lives her life to the fullest, following her dreams of running a big company. But when her world is torn apart by a storm, everything she has ever known disappears. Now, marooned on an island with a group of men, Alexis must learn to live in a world made up of simple things. Letting go of every known convenience, she realizes how insignificant her life has become. Filled with unrequited love for her rescuer she must battle the demons buried deep inside and she must look within herself and to her faith to find the strength needed to survive.

Strong and influential, Jacob Peterson, has done all he can to survive. When the fate turned its tables on him, he learned to cope with the inevitable. Plagued by his past and secrets buried there, Jacob exerts a rigid control, refusing to succumb to the joys, and torturous pain, of strong emotions. Without considering love a gift he may never receive, he believes--he chooses to live by strict set of rules. But when a strange beautiful woman washes up on his beach, the walls that he has put up long ago begin to crumble. Is she a punishment sent from God to torment his weary soul? Or is she a gift, sent from above, there to teach him how to trust? Who is this woman? And how will he stop himself from losing his heart?

Will he learn to forgive the past in order to save the woman he loves?

When Alexis plane was caught in a deadly storm and it broke into two, Alexis found herself stranded on a desert island with 15 other men who has been stranded there for 5 years. With all that’s going on, the unexpected(other than the plane crash) happened to Alexis — she found love.

So Simplicity was like a hid and seek game. Alexis fell for the handsome Jake. But Jake had a past that he couldn’t seem to run away from. A past he couldn’t forget.

I wasn’t really in sync with Alexis in this book at the beginning. I find that she’s needy and when she thinks, her mind always tunes in to — what I like to call ‘The Jake.FM’. But I pretty much got used to it after a while.

Jake was this really uptight and reserved guy. Every time Alexis aproaches, he took a step backwards and hide his feelings about her. He has this ‘Forbidden Love’ thing that has been going on in his head the whole time. It came up to one point that I felt like shouting, “YOU LOVE HER. JUST GO AND KISS HER ALREADY!”

I mean, their attraction to each other was undeniable, so I was all, what’s so wrong in his past that he couldn’t accept her in his life? ‘cause, you know, I have no idea what was so worse about his past as the author doesn’t even give a little bit of a hint of his past.

If I have any complains about this book is that I wish the mystery of why Jake wouldn’t let anyone in was given a little bit so the reader could pick up the pieces instead of suddenly blasting the mystery all in one place like a bomb.

*insert BOOM!!!!*

I was also a little uncomfortable with all the christianity that’s going on in this book as I am not a Christian. It’s like that one time I read First Date, when I sense there’s a preach that’s about to go on, I skipped it a little bit.

But overall, Simplicity was a really enjoyable read when I push aside all the christianity. It’s something I recommend to people who doesn’t mind religion in a book J

Character interview with Alexis:

            Hello Alexis and welcome!

                        Thanks for having me!

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Well, my name is Alexis, obviously. I was just promoted at work and I was on my way to a meeting when I crash landed on an island. Now, I’m kind of taking care of all these guys. I cook and clean. I go hunting with them. Well, mostly Jake *blushes* Anyway, its a bit weird not being in the office, but I digress. What was the question?

Let’s talk about Jake for a minute. Tell us a bit about him.

Well, umm, Jake is Jake. He’s perfect. Wait, I don’t mean perfect. I mean, he’s smart and he’s talented and he’s so good with everyone. He’s so handsome and strong. He’s, wait is he going to see this? *blushes*

How do you feel, being on the island?

Honestly, I feel blessed. I didn’t have to survive but God spared me. I could’ve ended up lost at sea or on a completely different island and I didn’t. I’m here, and I believe this is exactly where I’m supposed to be. I love this island, it is my home now.

Does Jake have something to do with that?

*blushes* *coughs* Maybe we shouldn’t talk about Jake right now.

            Why not?

Because Jake is confusing. And frustrating. And a pain. And the best thing in my life. I’m trying not to think about him, a lot.

            That’s a bit of a contradiction.

Jake is nothing but a contradiction. I never expected to meet someone like him. But I need him in my life, not just to save me from my own clumsiness, because seriously I am the clumsiest person on the planet, but to fill the other part of me that was missing. He drives me insane, but he’s everything I could’ve dreamed off and more. Agh, you got me to talk about Jake anyway, didn’t you?

People want to know! *laughs* Fine, let me ask you this: what is one thing you miss most about home?

About America? I’d have to say my family and friends. Oh and music. I miss being able to just blast something from the speakers. Although the guys here tend to sing a lot so I don’t miss it as much as I could’ve. However, I don’t know if America is my home anymore. Home is more about the people and Jake is my home. Oh my word! Don’t tell him I said that! My mouth is running away with me again! *hides*

I won’t tell. Let’s talk a bit more about you. What was your favorite past time?

Hanging out with my best friend. That was actually the only way I relaxed. She literally had to kidnap me from the office so I can take a breather. Now, Jake and Brendan do that for me. They drag me to the beach all the time just so I can relax.

Do you miss any particular food?

I could go for some fries that’s for sure. Also, maybe some Raspberry Cheesecake Mixer from Culver’s. That is some delicious ice cream.

            Coffee or Tea?

            Coffee. In an IV please.

            Pepsi or Coke?

Dr. Pepper. I’d fight Jake for that one. He’s going down!

Thank you Alexis for sharing a bit about yourself with us!
