Author Interview + Giveaway with Kenechi Udogu

Today on TIB, I am interviewing Kenechi Udogu, author of The Other Slipper. Her The Other Slipper book is AMAZING. You can see how much I love this book by reading my review of it here :D

FN: Hi Kenechi! Let's start this interview by introducing yourself to the readers here.

KU:
Hiya, my name is Kenechi Udogu and I currently live in the UK where I work as an Architect by day and sit glued to my PC at night trying to fulfil my dream of being a successful writer.

FN: What inspires you to write The Other Slipper?

KU:
Poor vision or perhaps it was fatigue after a long day at the office. Seriously though, I was walking home from work and misread a sign that said "The Other Side" for "The Other Slipper". That got me thinking about what happened to Cinderella's other slipper after she left the ball. My tired mind built up the bones of a story where someone else found the slipper which turned out to be under the spell of its own. My logic was that it was the only item that didn't change back to its original form after the ball so something else had to be wrong with it. Turns out Cinderella held on to it in the original story and used it to prove to the prince that she was the girl from the ball. That didn't stop me from carrying on with my crazy idea and the rest of the story came to life fairly quickly.

FN: What are you working on right now?

KU:
I'm attempting to write a YA paranormal novella about a girl who could alter minds. It's pretty slow going at the moment as it's not my usual genre but I like it so far. One to look out later in the year, perhaps.

FN: What do you do when you're not writing or reading?

KU:
I play a worrying amount of computer games (Chainz and Angry Birds are evil!), dream about being a rock star in an alternate life, go to the cinema and theatre with my friends (musicals are the best) or just hang out on my couch watching TV series.

FN: Name 3 things you can't leave your house without.

KU:
- My humongous handbag which has EVERYTHING in it - and that's not an exaggeration.
- My wristwatch (I will go nuts if I don't know what time it is).
- A jacket, because I'm almost always cold.

FN: If you're going to live on a stranded dessert island, name 3 books you'll bring with you.

KU:
Can I cheat and be non specific?
- Something by Jane Austen (probably Persuasion).
- Something by Steven King (probably The Stand).
- The Bible.

FN: Name 3 fictional characters that you can't help but swoon over.

KU:
- Eric from Disney's version of The Little Mermaid
- Damon from The Vampire Diaries (okay, it's mostly because of Ian Somerhalder that I drool - lush!).
- Can I cheat and say Ryan Reynolds? Any fictional character he's ever been is swoon worthy.

FN: What are you looking forward to?

KU:
A holiday where all I get to do is sleep - bliss!

For some fun!

Love triangle or insta-love?
Urgh, neither. Both are overdone these days so I like it when a story offers something different.

Contemporary or paranormal?
I'd have to say contemporary for now - I like paranormal but there are so many vampire, ghost and werewolf stories out there that it's difficult not to get jaded. I find myself having to wade through dozens of samey stories till I find a gem. I guess the same applies for contemporary...

(Lol. I see what you're trying to say here. High-five girl for contemporaries! :D)

Nice guys or bad guys?
Ha ha, I'd say nice bad guys. Problem is, do they even exist?

Drama or comedy?
Comedy. Why cry when you can laugh?

Gummy bears or Kit Kat?
Gummy bears - or more specifically, Haribos, love them!

About the author:

Kenechi lives in London and enjoys writing fantasy fiction and short stories (some of which she posts on her blog). She also hates the cold and hopes to one day figure out how to hibernate in winter.
